  • Dalby Forest Duathlon: Nick Moore secured a fantastic overall win.
  • Welbeck 10k charity run: Large Harriers turnout for an enjoyable event around Welbeck Estate.

Settle down with a brew, it’s a long one this week!!

Starting on Monday, Adam Jonczyk spent his bank holiday running the Milton Keynes Marathon, with a PB of 3:34, a cracking result!

Wednesday saw the return of the popular local KMR race series, always a Harrier favourite. The Maltby Memorial Run kicked things off with a 4 mile trail race. New second claim member John Ritchie came home first in 3rd overall, with Euan Carroll on his trail in 4th. Aaron Buckland, Ryan Brown, Kerry Saville, Chris Lawrence, Julie Gaskell, Alex Edwards and Louise Morris all put in a great shift for the club, with everyone enjoying the legendary free chip butties afterwards!

On Wednesay a number of young athletes qualified to represent the County in the District School competition, including Isaac Beresford, Summer Johnson, Amelia Jonczyk Oscar Wallace, Miley Townrow and Eliza De Villers. Great results from these young athletes!

Saturday saw an early start for Sam Robinson, Chris Bliss, Kirsty Fairbairn-Wint and David Firth, who all completed the Dukeries 40, a 40 mile trail race around the local area taking in Clumber, Sherwood and Walesby. Chris is fundraising for Rotherham Hospice for very personal reasons and you can read more here and if you can spare a quid or two, please do.

Chris Lawrence, ever present at any event that involves a level of madness, took on the Dukeries 30 and did himself proud, managing to avoid any pub stops, a usual feature of his long races (mainly because he couldn’t find one).

Our combined events squad competed in the Nottinghamshire County Championships  Saturday and Sunday winning  a huge 25 medals with numerous PB’s. Isaac Beresford and Grace Walton won 6 medals each and we gained four County Hurdles Champions ;  Isaac (U14 Boys 80m), Eliza De Villiers (U14G 75m), Grace (U18W 100m) and Charlotte Ayton (U20W 100m). Summer Johnson PB’d and won a silver medal in U16G 80m.

In Jumps; Brooklyn Crooks (U20M) won Pole Vault and Long Jump. Summer Johnson led a U16 Girls high jump clean sweep with Gold, silver for Darcey Croshaw, and bronze for Amelia Read. Summer won bronze in long jump (and PB’d), with Darcey finishing fourth. Grace won silver medals in the High Jump, Long Jump and Triple Jump! Isaac won a long jump gold medal with a massive PB, and a high jump silver. Charlotte completed the long jump medal haul winning silver. There were long jump PB’s for Eliza De Villiers (U16G and 4th), Lyndon Cupit Richards (U18M and 4th), Alfie Scattergood (U18M and 5th) and Sabrina Cupit Richards (U14G).

In  throwing events Grace won bronze and PBd in the Discus and Shot Put and Alfie also won bronze and PB’d in U18M Shot Put.

On the track, there was 3000m success for Miley Townrow (U18W) and John Harrision (Masters M60) both winning bronze medals. Isaac won U14B 100m and 200m Gold, silver in the 800m and PB’d in all 3. Sabrina Cupit-Richards (U14G) PB’d in 800m with brother Lyndon PB’ing and finishing 4th in the U18M 100m, followed by Alfie Scattergood, who also finished 4th in the 400m.

In Quad Kids events for younger athletes, we had a great young team of athletes competing on Saturday in lots of different events. The team were Libby Mould, Lauren Townrow, Beth Hands, George North, Freddie North, Hugo McCarthy and Oakley Allsop. Coach Michele Harrop was very proud, they all did amazingly well! George North (U12B) won a bronze medal, a great result for this young athlete.

To achieve such high standards over a wide range of events takes a lot of hard work and reflects consistent, dedicated training.

Four Worksop Harriers officials volunteered over the weekend, which can’t go ahead without officials with Mark Hazlehurst and Gwen Hines on the Track, Peter Fendley Field Judging and Richard Harrop with the Quad Kids. If any club members wish to become officials, please contact Peter Fendley (Field) or Mark Hazlehurst (Track).

Sunday saw another club Grand Prix race, Carsington 7+, a 7.5 mile trail race round Carsington Water.  A great result for Darcie Wasnidge with 2nd place and silver! Our ladies squad also included Julie Holloway, Cath Mhembre, Sally Bulmer and Deborah Ball, with Matt Daly, Scott Arthur, Nick Mould, David Bulmer, and Stephen Robinson-Day for the men. Great runs across the board!!

Nick Moore took a well-deserved fantastic overall win in the Dalby Forest Duathlon surprising himself but no one else!

And finally, we had  lots of Harriers at the Welbeck 10k charity run around Welbeck Estate, an annual opportunity to see the gorgeous grounds. It is not a formal race but is a brilliant opportunity to enjoy a lovely run, and many Harriers did just that!
