Whilst the mercury rose for one of the hottest weeks on record, we had some red hot performances from Harriers across the week as we started on Thursday with the 26th edition of the annual Worksop vs Retford Chris Ryan Memorial Canal Relay. Starting from Manton this year with each club fielding 5 pairs of runners to cover the nine 2-4 mile stages all the way to King’s Park in Retford and back. Seven Harriers made their debut on a fiercely contested club favourite.

The hot evening made for challenging conditions for both teams and the our volunteer marshals doing an A* job of keeping the runners going, cool and topped up with supplies as the race was as always exciting from start to finish. This year the spoils went to Retford with a winning time of 2:13:15 and 2:14:27 and after 26 races brings the scores all even at 13-13.

On to the weekend and it was a busy one with events across both days as we start at the Regional Schools Combined Events Final at Moorways, Derby, with severa qualifying for the finals in September. In the Intermediate Girls Heptathlon, our trio of Summer, Darcey and Amelia winning five of the seven events, finishing 2nd place behind Warwickshire. A brilliant overall second place for Summer Johnson with a massive pb total of 3832 points did qualify her for the finals as one of the two individuals, alongside the Warwickshire team.

In the Senior Girls Heptathlon, Grace (2nd), Charlotte (4th) and Penelope (5th) with all three through to represent Nottinghamshire in the National Finals, where they are joined by Isaac Beresford, who had an excellent Junior Boys Pentathlon debut finishing in 3rd place overall.
Freddie Marks completed his first Decathlon, finishing 4th in the senior boy's event and In the Junior Girls Pentathlon, Eliza De Villiers was part of the Nottinghamshire team finishing 2nd.

Continuing the multi-events theme, Alicia Wells competed for a combined Oxford and Cambridge team against a College team from the USA, selected to compete in the Long Jump (5.37m), 100m hurdles (15.7s) and 4 x 100m relay.
The Round Sheffield Run also covered both days (though those on Sunday getting a little luckier with the weather!) and was ever popular as runners race across 12 stages across just under 20 km of stages mixings hills, trails and roads split up with nearly 5 km of break/walk stages. With options to compete as either individual or as a pair theres lots of ways to enjoy the race with lots of our runners opting to race together and regroup between stages. Henry Brady, David Bulmer, Tamara Hazlehurst, Jo Campbell, Kerry Saville, Deborah Ball and Matan Duveen all taking part as individuals whilst on the pairs we had Alex Edwards/Julie Gaskell, Delia Nicholson/Linda Foy and last but fat from least Matt Daly teamed up to take 2nd in the Male-Pair, just 9s behind 1st.

It wasn’t solely running contributions at RSR as Sally and Holly Bulmer put in a shift on the Sunday making the event happen before joining the team afterwards for a post-race party in the park.
This weeks report concludes with a common theme this month as Caroline Luckham and Roy Turner were a runner-marshal combo down at Market Rasen 10k with Roy and marshalling duties and Caroln enjoying a run round in the heat!
