It's hard to know where to start with the amount of activity this weekend, so in date and time order:
Saturday saw a number of senior and junior Harriers (and one dog) take on various distances at Wild Deer events trail running festival at Thoresby Hall. Mason Palmer, at only 8, ran his longest distance yet, completing the 2k run. Sheryl Hibberd and Vicky Eeles took on the Longhorn 10k, whilst Helen Widdowson and Ronnie Challinor did the Longhorn trail half marathon, which was nearer 14 miles on some tough trails. Finally, Charlotte Randell and her pooch Martha did the half marathon cani-cross event, with both doing well! Some great runs and great to see some people completing their longest distances to date!

Manchester Marathon, always a club favourite, took place on Sunday and what a set of results we had! This gang have trained with dedication, commitment and in many cases worked hard to come back from injuries, and the work they put in showed in the results. Henry Brady had a massive PB and went well under 3 hours in 2:53 and club age graded silver standard. Aaron Buckland and Dom Ayton were next up with big PB's too, at 3:12 and 3:17, and bronze standards for both. Julie Holloway led the ladies home, and what a run to do it! Julie was rewarded with a massive PB at 3:42, club Gold Standard for age 55-59, and London Marathon Good for Age time. Madi Spencer fought back from injury to come in at 3:50 with a great run, and Tamara Hazlehurst was next in the PB queue with 3:50, silver standard for age 50-54, London GFA time, and a massive PB! Kirsty Fairbairn-Wint and Chris Lawrence were in next, both coming back from injury to get the race done, with Kirsty earning a club bronze, and Jess Monk did a fantastic run, in 5:30, achieving her first ever marathon distance not long after coming out of a plaster cast! Every medal was very well earned and deserved by a group that have trained hard for months and in some cases, years.

Also on Sunday, a big squad of seniors and juniors took to the track and field at Newark for the County Development League, which offers athletes a host of opportunities to compete in track and field events in a relaxed yet competitive atmosphere. The league is the brainchild of our chairman, Pete Fendley, and is a brilliant way to get extra competition experience. It also gives athletes of all ages the chance to try out events they may not usually have an opportunity to and is a great club day out.
For the men’s track events, Bryan Cherry and Harry Cole took 1st and 3rd in the men’s 1500m heat 1 with a PB for Harry. Harry continued the day with a PB at 200m (28.8) and a great 800m, one 1 second off his PB!

Lyndon Cupit-Richard put in a storming performance to win Heat 2 of the men’s 100m in an incredible 11.60sec and 2nd fastest 100m of the day and the faster U18. Teammate Alfie Scattergood took 3rd in the same race for a good race for the club in 12 seconds dead. Zac Ellery then won his heat in 12.90, a great result for Zac. Lyndon later came 2nd in the fastest men’s 200m heat (23.40 with Alfie not far behind on 23.70 and Zac doing well in his heat with a time of 26.30
In a slightly longer race, veteran club member John Harrison showed great form in the 3000m, coming 6th in his heat.
Next up, the ladies showed fine form with Summer Johnson winning the U16 girls 80m hurdles, Layla Gavin 2nd and Darcy Crowshaw 5th. Alicia Wells then took 1st place in the senior 100m hurdles with Charlotte Ayton 2nd.
Layla Gavin and Darcy Crowshaw put in great performances as U16 girls with 29.8 and 30.3 seconds in the 200m respectively. And finally for the track, a sterling performance by Alicia, Charlotte, Alfie and Lyndon in the mixed relay 4x100m saw them take 2nd place!
There was also some great field event competition for the athletes, with Freddie Marks taking 3rd overall in shot put (9.88m), winning the high jump (1.75) and achieving a good pole vault height of 2.50m as the only athlete taking part.
The Harrier ladies took 5 of the top 6 long jump places with Charlotte Ayton showing a return to form after injury (5.17m), Alicia Wells (4.93), Summer Johnson (4.66), Darcy Crawshaw (PB of 4.64) and Layla Gavin (4.22) jumping well, the latter 3 as U16’s. Lyndon Cupit-Richards was the only male harrier competing, and in his first long jump competition came 5th with a great 5.40.
Alicia also competed in high jump (1.55), and came 5th in javelin, for a good day out, and Summer took to the high jump (1.50). Some brilliant results, and at the next meet in May we aim to field a bigger squad still!
