It was time for match #2 of the Summer League series as Harriers returned to a familiar venue for an unfamiliar(ish) course. A late change to availability meant a new location had to be found for the five-match series which resulted in a tweaked course of just over five miles at The NWSC, Holme Pierrepont. Completing almost a complete U of the lake meant a fast and flat paved start before runners were sent up the grass embankment for some light-over roading, also providing a nice contra-flow as the runners passed each other. Flowing back around on the original starting straight before a late diversion for a bit more off-roading. Promising starts to the season saw a good few Harriers putting themselves in the medal contention with excellent runs keeping them up in the rankings. Ben Rhodes led home the men’s team in 9th (and now sits 4th in the series) followed closely by Tom Shaw (11th), a two-some of Matt Daly and Henry Brady (35/36th) and Barnaby Gray (68th to also put himself in the age category medals) made the scoring 5 as the Harriers finished on the night. Bryan Cherry (100th), Adam Jonczyk (115th), Danny Watts (167th) and Matan Duveen (261st) completed the men’s team.
The ladies were equally on the medal hunt as Hannah Miller shot right up the table to finish 4th on the night whilst also jumping right up the table Sally Ormrod finished 17th to put herself in medal contention. Cathy Mhembere (91st) and Sarah Morgan (139th), completed the ladies team as they finished 7th on the night. Kerry Dickinson (158th), Kim Smith (166th) and Alice Shaw-Phillips (173rd) completed our ladies team.
With most of the racing done for the weekend, many harriers were on the side line as we hosted the Annual Gerald Storey Memorial Fun Run. Raising money for Cancer Research UK, the run has had a few iterations and found a new 5.5 mile course now in June. A figure-8 run on mostly trails sees runners and walkers head out from the grounds of Worksop College and in to the trails switching back between Old Coach Road and Windmill Lane. This years fun run saw a bumper attendance as 260 took part not only enjoying the scenic course on a lovely spring Day but also raising a fantastic £3,703.36! A fantastic result thanks to the hard work of The GSFR committee!
