We start this weeks report with success from two of our juniors receiving rewards for a winter of hard work as the indoor season nears its end! First up Summer Johnson finished 3rd overall in the South Yorkshire Indoor Series. Athletes competed in runs, throws and jumps over the four competitions and consistent and strong results saw Summer finish the series with some silverware! Also indoors Isaac Beresford who scored a big PB in the 150m sprinting 21.6 and puts him 7th in UK for indoors as well jumps 1.30m in HJ to finish 4th overall out of around 60.
Out in the XC but still with our juniors, the National Primary Schools and Year 7 XC Finals took place at Kenilworth with Harrier boys representing in Y3, 4 and 5. In the Y3 1.3 kn race, Freddie North finished 23rd whilst brother George raced in the Y5 2.3 km finishing 29th. Down the middle and Y4 1.6 km saw Hugo McCarthy finish 42nd for a day of excellent young Harrier runs.
Out on the Fells on Saturday, Sally & Jim Staveley and Keery Dickinson took part in the Chicken Run fell race, an annual event organised by Hayfield Primary School as part of their 'Easter Eggstravaganza'.
The route was 8.7 miles long with just over 1650 ft of elevation and took runners out of Hayfield and up and over Lantern Pike. The ups and downs, steep rocky tracks and unexpected obstacles were challenging at times but with runners offered the chance to 'chicken out' and take the optional short-cut to a 6 mile route. All three harriers being brave stuck to the full 8.7 mile route!
Jim finished in 1:33 and Kerry and Sally in 2:11 with runners provided with a generous post-race (and home bakes spread) to fuel some hungry fell runners!
Still in the Peak District (just about!) and on the road but very much the with that Hilly feel, the Sheffield Half took place with negative split practically included in the price as runners climb all the way up to Ringlow Road from the city centre, rewarding great views (though misty on the day!) before a fast blast back downhill to finish. Adrian Hopkinson and Paul Parry were the first pair round together in 1:28:0 followed shortly by Chris Bliss (1:28:25) scoring the first PB of the day. Another Chris next as Lawrence ran 1:33:15 and Adam Jonczyk in 1:34:42. Kerry Saville was next in 1:37:13 and David Firth sipping under 1:44:48. Jo Campbell snuck under 2 hours in 1:59:19 with the Harriers team being wrapped up with Adrian Thompson (2:12:47) and Sharon James (2:18:42).
The opposite way as we head south to with the Marathon prep crew to the very undulating 20 miles of Ashby 20 and a bus load of PB’s. Tom Shaw scored a PB and a spot on the podium finishing 3rd in 1:54:18 whilst two superb runs from Matt Daly and Hannah Miller a good 6 minutes clear of Silver standard in 2:04:30 and 2:20:18. Gabby bower and Cath Mhembere snuck under 3 hours in 2:59:13 and 25s(PB and Silver for Cath) followed by Rachel Silcock in 3:05:39. Big PB for Charlotte Randell in 3:08:18 whilst Sally Hamer got out her comfort zone and on to the roads in 3:14:59
