From muddy wet fun to Benidorm sun

Grab a seat and a cuppa for this week’s bumper edition….

Over an action-packed weekend, we had athletes of all ages out in the mud, rain and in sunnier climes for some.

Our juniors kicked off the weekend’s events with round 2 of the Nottinghamshire Schools competition with four juniors racing in testing conditions. Miley Townrow was 5th in Y10-11 girls race, remaining in contention for the series win. Holly Bulmer, having a busy week of racing, was 15th in Y8-9. Gorge North made it two wins from two in Y5-6 boys and Hugo McCarthy had another strong race to finish 10th. Great work everyone!

Also Saturday, a squad of Harriers travelled to sunnier climes for the Benidorm evening 10k and Half Marathon. Jo Ledger, Deb Lawrence and Mark Manley had great runs in the 10k, whilst in the half marathon Lucy Binch, Neil Allsop and Sam Thornloe ran PB’s with Sam taking a whopping 12 minutes off his previous best, ably paced by wife Kate. Clare Allsop returned from injury for an impressive run, followed by Andrew Ledger, Chris Lawrence and Jo Campbell who dipped under 2 hours. Charlotte Randell- on a 50-day charity run challenge- and Lee-Anne Manley both ran well on a hilly course for a strong green and black presence in Benners!

Sunday saw a big squad of juniors in action in the mud for Notts Mini-League XC round 3. Our Under 11 girls team now sit 3rd overall after an impressive display by Frankie Boden-Hook, Lauren Townrow, Bethany Hands, Libby Mould and Isla Arthur.

In the Under 11 Boys, George North had his second win of the weekend, with teammates Hugo McCarthy (with another top 10), Freddie Parente, Max Foster, Freddie North and Roman Marks all performing incredibly well in  a big field.

The Under 13 boys were well represented by Isaac Beresford, Harry Robertson and Ethan Baxter all come in top 13.

And last but certainly not least, our under 15’s team of Holly Bulmer and Heidi Marks for the girls and Jenson White and Henry Marks for the boys put in some great efforts over a tough, wet and muddy course!

Clowne Half Marathon saw great green and black support with everyone coming away with the sought after hoodie for their efforts. Kerry Saville led the charge followed by Steve Battle, James Morris (running in his second claim and best club kit of Harriers green and black), Matan Duveen and Gillian and John Shephard, all putting in fine performances on a less than fine day weather wise.

Silverstone run fest half marathon saw Paul Parry take the V50 age win, with Adrian Hopkinson having a great run in very windy conditions.

Finally, although not a race, a 10 strong Harrier team ran Clumber Park’s free Trust 10k which is always well supported and appreciated by the club members, wrapping up a weekend of great running all round!
