We will start this week with our incredible multi-eventers, a group of young athletes who competed this weekend having qualified for the UK National Indoor Combined Events Championships, a huge achievement in itself. Not only that but on the day they showed just how amazing they are, with all three athletes achieving many personal best performances in a national championship competition, under pressure, showing their immense potential.

Summer Johnson took part in the U17 Girls Pentathlon, finishing in 17th position with a points score of 2810, an impressive improvement of 456 points on last year, gathering three personal best performances from her five events.

Summer started with a pb of 9.7s in the 60m hurdles, followed this with a 1.51m clearance in the high jump and, with only three girls jumping higher, moved into 11th  overall. Summer then produced another PB in the Shot Put,  leapt to 4.78m in the long jump, just short of another PB, then got yet another PB time of 2m 47.18s in the 800m, finishing her day in 17th place overall. As one of the younger athletes in this high calibre field, this was an excellent day for Summer, and one to be proud of moving into the summer season.

Isaac Beresford and Layla Gavin experienced a national level of competition for the first time, in the Under 15 Boys and Girls Pentathlons.

Isaac had an exceptional first national competition finishing 10th with an overall points score of 2056 points which included personal best performances in every individual event. Layla had an equally impressive debut to national competition also scoring over 2000 points, with personal best performances in four of her five events, and achieving 26th place overall in a large and highly competitive field of athletes, as can always be expected in a national final.

On Saturday, a squad of Harriers across the age groups ran in the Inter Counties Cross Country and the UKA Cross Challenge Final, having qualified for their county. For the seniors, pulling on the Notts vest were Miley Townrow in the U17 ladies, Darcie Wasnidge in the senior ladies, pulling on her first county vest, and Tom Shaw in the senior men’s. all had brilliant races putting in excellent performances at the very top level.

For our younger team members,  George North came an impressive 4th overall in under 11 boys, continuing his fab performances. Oscar Wallace competed in a huge field of 350 U15 boys and as per the seniors, put on a fine show to do the Notts vest justice!

Two very different groups of athletes in XC and athletics, but all had fantastic events against tough national competition and did the Worksop Harriers and themselves proud this weekend!

A big well done to Chris Johnson and daughter Lily, who alongside sister Summer are clearly carrying on a family tradition of awesomeness, for fine performances in the Wickersely 10k. Old Jono ran a brilliant 42:10, with a silver standard just within reach, and Junior Jono ran 55:54 in her first ever 10k. A good weekend for the Jono’s! Aaron Buckland stormed to a silver standard and PB with 37:03 for another great run.

For the fell running contingent, Kerry Dickinson kept up the good work this weekend, running Wolf’s Pitt Fell race, on a foggy course with over 1500ft of elevation. Kerry treated herself to a very well-deserved Sunday dinner after!

Charlotte Randell ran the Cambridge half marathon for a great bronze standard time, on a very popular course.

And we had some new and well received training runs this weekend. Saturday saw the first club recce of the Worksop Harriers Dirty Dozen route, our new 12 mile trail race on 26th September which you can enter here SiEntries - Clumber Dirty Dozen

Sunday saw a number of members get together for a marathon paced training session involving a set route where members work alongside each other to pace, cheer and achieve their marathon goals. Special shout out from Captain Tom to Nia and Cathy for sterling efforts! And although park runs are done by many club members at many venues, it was lovely to see a group of teenage Harriers get together again this week for Clumber parkrun, pushing and supporting each other. When many teenagers were still in bed, this gang were up, out and at ‘em!

That’s a wrap this week. Well done all!
