A mixture of in and outdoor action for this weekends PBs as we start with a report from Peter Fendley at The English Institute of Sport this weekend.

The England Athletics U15/U17/U20 Indoor Championships took place at the English Institute of Sport (EIS) in Sheffield this past weekend.

Worksop Harriers were well represented in the 60m hurdles, with Alicia Wells, Charlotte Ayton and Summer Johnson all competing on the Sunday.

Summer had qualified in the U15W age group and ran a time of 10.37s in her heat, her second fastest time and showing that she is coming back to form after her recent ankle injury. Alicia and Charlotte had both qualified in the U20W age group and both improved their pb's in the heats, Alicia running 9.37s in heat 1 and Charlotte finishing second in heat 2 with 9.04s and qualifying for the semi-finals. Charlotte then ran an equally impressive time in her semi-final with 9.05s just missing out on the final by less than 1/10th second, finishing 11th overall on the day.

This was an excellent experience for our girls, who are new to the rigorous 'call room' protocols that are put in place at this level of competition, and all of the nervous tension that is generated through the process. The whole event was live streamed and anyone who watched it will realise that these three young Worksop Harriers did not look out of place on this national stage and did the club proud with the way they performed.

Following this event their overall national rankings in the 60m hurdles have improved as follows:

Charlotte - 18th, Alicia 37th and Summer 57th.  These young ladies all work extremely hard in training and have a promising future.

The indoor championship season is now in full swing and, next weekend, Brooklyn Crooks competes in the Long Jump at the University Championships. This is followed by the UK U15/U17 Indoor Combined Events Championships in early March, with Grace Walton, Freddie Marks and Summer Johnson all qualifying and representing Worksop Harriers. Both of these events are again at Sheffield, and we are lucky to have a national indoor stadium so close.

Back outdoors on Sunday and a choice of 10ks following the re-arranged Bolsover 10k from just before Christmas. Starting at Bolsover on a cold and misty morning, the castle adorning the back drop and an undulating course starting and finishing from the castle grounds, the course loops up to Oxcroft and back, the down-and-back-up course required a bit of early race pacing to get the most out of the course and it didn’t disappoint with no less than three big PB’s and two more excellent runs from the Five Harriers on course. Matt Daly was first back in 35:27 putting an old PB to bed as he knocked nearly 3 minutes off and it wasn’t loong till the next came with an excellent run from Henry Brady also dipping under 36 in 35:57! Following next two excellent Vet performances as Ian Monaghan and Steve Battle finished 3rd and 4th in the age groups with times of 39:19 and 42:18. Rounding out the performances an excellent result from Maddi Spencer as she set a big 10k PB, nearly matching her 5k PB twice in row to run 44:02!

Over to the seaside for the next 10k action as Paul Parry took on a twisty-turney course over at Skegness, taking the age group victory with super-strong performance, running 38:14
