The ultra-running scene came about as close as it gets to Worksop this weekend as a club favourite of the Dukeries 30 and 40 mile returned. Starting from Walesby the route heads over to South-Clumber, Hazel-Gap (including a 10 mile loop of Sherwood Forest for the 40 milers), then over to Creswell Crags before up Drinking Pit Lane, the North side of clumber and a loop around Bothamsall to (finally!) finish in a little further than the advertised distances!

Eight Harriers took on the 30 mile and Six in the 40 for everything from first time ultra runners, too massive Pb’s and even a podium!

First home from the harriers wasn’t one 30 miler but one of the 40 milers as Matt Daly took the race right to end finishing in 2nd by less than a minute over the mammoth race in 5:19:53, not only knocking an hour off his previous best but securing the novel and coveted prize of a Hobo Pace Whisky Flask as is par for the course of these events. Not far behind and only a few 30’s in front was another big PB as Henry Brady finished 6th in an (almost!) very attractive time of 5:55:54. Next home saw Chris Lawrence finish in 8:40:50 followed shortly by first timer Charlotte Randall in 8:53:30 whilst next up a duo of Dave Bulmer and Kate Thorneloe made it a first timer and Kate stepping up from the 30 of previous years to run 9:02:51

On to the 30 miler and a mixture of first timers, seasoned ultra runners and plenty of team camaraderie as David Firth, Sam Marriott and Julie Holloway 5:41:55 whilst Jo Campbell seized on some marathon fitness to take in a few extra miles in 7:10:34. Lucy binch and Michelle Atherton completed together for first timers in 7:15:23 whilst ultra vet’s Sarah Morgan and Kerry Dickinson finished in 7:23:05

On Sunday and several Harriers took on the Waverley Dash with 10k of trail around Waverley Lake and Treeton Dyke. Kevin Saville was first harrier home with a respectable top-10 followed by Nick Mould and Brother Kevin Saville. On the ladies front Sharon James and Tanja Maric took on the race together on a scenic sunny but hot day!

Finally our juniors also took in a mini league at Newark in a series of run jumps and throws. Results still to be published but another great team turn out with 14 boys and girls across the U11-U15’s with the highlight being a superb PB of 1.73 m for Freddie Marks.
