Harriers well represented at Regional Schools Combined Events

This weeks report from Peter Fendley as the junior combined events squad had an excellent week at their school county competition with a large number of the Notts squad to be made up of Worksop Harriers!

Five members of the Worksop Harriers combined events squad represented their respective schools at the recent County Championship event. All five gained County medals and selection for their County in the Regional Finals, to take place at Abingdon in Oxfordshire on the weekend of 28/29th June. From the Regional competitions, the top County teams, along with the best individual athletes, will go on to compete in the National Schools finals in September at Chelmsford.

In the Junior Girls pentathlon, Summer Johnson scored a new personal best points total of 2369, helped by an excellent 75m hurdles pb (12.5s) and an equal pb in the high jump (1.47m) finishing with a Nottinghamshire County Silver medal. Although unable to compete on the day, Darcey Croshaw will also join Summer in the County Team at Abingdon.

In the Inter Girls Pentathlon, Grace Walton became the Nottinghamshire County Champion (2185 points) with Ceryn Greaves (1279 points) taking the Silver medal.

In the same event, Isobel Wells got the Bronze medal for Derbyshire with 1573 points.

In the Senior Girls Pentathlon, Charlotte Ayton won 4 of her 5 events, finishing second in the other one, and became the Nottinghamshire County Champion with 2506 points, over 500 points ahead of second place, and achieving a new 800m pb of 2m 35.8s in the process. Although unable to compete on the day, due to an 'A' Level examination, Alicia Wells has also been preselected to join Charlotte in the County Team. 

In the Regional Combined Events competition each County team will consist of 4 athletes per age group. Members of the Worksop Harriers combined events squad have been selected as below.
