We reached the mid-way point of the Summer League and it very much felt it on a hot evening at a scenic and rolling course at Wollaton Hall as a small Harriers team headed over to Nottingham for the mid-week race. A 5 mile course on the perimeter of the park with a mix of road, grass and trails as well as up to the manor from both sides makes a great course as several Harriers continued their hunt for medals. Our ladies saw some of the best results so far of the series as Hannah Miller led home the Harriers team, not only bagging 3rd place for herself and but also leading the team to a 3rd place finish on the night and followed by Sally Ormrod (18th) who also remains high in the AG group medal. Lucy Binch continued a fine run of form following a recent big 10k PB to also be 3rd Harriers Lady with an excellent run (44th) and followed shortly by club debut and excellent run from Darcie Wasnidge (53rd) to help the ladies to their 3rd place finish. A tightly packed group Cathy Mhembere (94th), Charlotte Randell (115th), Rachel Silcock (120th) and Sarah Dickinson (178th) made our Vet’s team and it was another club debut for the night as Sarah Jayne-Baines was a welcome addition on her first SL race.

On to the Men and Tom Shaw was the 1st Harrier back (14th) with Barnaby Gray next (62nd) who also remains high in contention for an AG medal. Paul Parry (78th) followed shortly with Ethan Ellery (197th) and Peter Spencer (206th) rounded out the Man’s scoring five with Matan Duveen completing the men’s squad for the evening. The next match of the SL will see us host our home match at Worksop College which always provides a shorter but challenging course as runners head out on to roads around Worksop College

Just a day later and a handful headed to Grindleford for the GP fell race. Out of Grindleford and a sharp and leg sapping two mile climb up to the Longshaw Estate before runners are rewarded with a dash across the top, down through the scenic Padley Gorge and a welcome did across the river Derwent in the evenings heat for the six harriers in attendance. Paul Parry was first home for the harriers to take maximum GP points followed by Kerry Saville, Adam Jonczyk and Matan Duveen all claiming points whilst for the Ladies Sam Robinson took the max points with Lucy Binch in 2nd.

On to the weekend and it was very much a Track and & Field focused as some our talented Juniors represented Nottinghamshire Schools in the Mason Trophy, competing with 9 other counties for a fantastic day of great quality competition for the young athletes. The very warm weather continued whilst interrupted with random downpours on a changeable day made for some interesting competition but that didn’t stop some excellent performances. First up on the Summer Johnson competed in the Junior Girls as she cleared 1.46m in very wet conditions. Up to the Inter Girls age group and Miley Townrow ran excellently to score a PB of 11:00.57 and finish 4th whilst Ceryn Greaves was the final harrier of the day as she competed in the LJ scoring a PB of 3.81m. Excellent individual performances as the girls helped the Nottinghamshire IG’s team on to the win in both the Field and Overall team competition.

Sunday was a more subdued T&F affair but five Harriers headed down to Grantham for the 2nd Northern League Match on a blustery afternoon. Ethan Ellery ran his first 800m of the year in 2:25.6 whilst going up in distance Tom Shaw and Ian Monaghan ran the 5,000m before finishing with 1,500, with Tom taking 1st and 2nd in the two races (16:34.7 and 4:38.1) with Ian taking 2nd and 3rd in the two B-String events (19:30.7 and 5:32.4). Rounding out the men’s squad and Brooklyn Crookes took a clear win the HJ (1.80m) before finishing 3rd in Shot (10.47) whilst our sole Lady, Charlotte Ayton, covered three events as she prepares for the English Schools competition in July. A dominant show in the 100mH saw her run 16.2s, before finishing 2nd in HJ (1.40) and 4th in the 200m (27.8s)
