Last Sunday saw The Harriers take part in the UK’s biggest half marathon as the famous undulating course running from Newcastle to South Shields took place on The Great North Run. Cool and a bit of rain made for some good conditions for the 60,000ish runners and first Harrier home was a great run from Nick Mould setting a significant PB of 1:37:51. Next home and showing a continued return to form Rachel Silcock paced herself well to come in under 2 in 1:58:49 followed shortly by Jo Campbell in 2:02 on the nose. Sharon James and Sally Bulmer were close finishers in 2:06:02 and 2:07:12 whilst next up Karen P ran 2:18:56 and Sarah Cherry ran 2:36:59. Finishing off the Harriers Sarah-Jayne Baines accompanied her daughter as they made their way from city to coast in 2:52:23
In addition to the great runs the GNR also creates a great opportunity to raise funds for worthy charities with this year many of the Harriers raising for great causes including The Richard Whitehead Foundation, The MS Society and the BHF.
Finishing on one lighter note and on to another as the following Monday saw the finale of the popular Trunce series which as ever included its Fancy Dress Theme.
Superb efforts from the Team as always as Chris Lawrence, Madi Spencer and Alice Shaw-Phillips went for a Super Mario Team whilst Sharon James features once again (but where?) as Wally! Great efforts as always however they were upstaged in the race for best fancy dress as one couple quite literally decisded the dirtiest thing they could do on their wedding night was the Trunce!
