This week were back on the mid-week racing as the second match of the Summer League series took place at Wollaton Hall, Nottingham. 23 Harriers made the trip South for a scenic undulating 5 miler with a mix of grass, gravel and road as they looped around the house, up to the famous hall and around the lake before back up, down and a fast finish for those last places. 15 men made up three teams of two senior and vets team with the Men’s A-team continuing their quest for another year of medals. Tom Shaw and Dom Fielding pushed on from match 1, finishing 16th and 17th whilst another great run by Ben Rhodes saw him finish 25th. Matt Daly broke in to the scoring five with a 41st followed by Adrian Hopkinson in 48th, with the combined scores helping the Harriers Men to a 4th place finish.

On to the ladies and Madi Spencer led the ladies team home (30th) whilst Jo Campbell and Nia Arthur made a welcome return to the Summer League finishing 92nd and 117th with Cathy Mhembere making up the ladies team (107th).

On to the weekend and there was action at both T&F and off-road. On Saturday the second match of the Northern League took place at Newark. James Lonsdale and Nick Mould ran got some sprints in in the 200 and 400 m (28.0s and 58.7s for James and 32.4s and 78.0s for Nick), before Nick went on to run in the 5000m for a busy afternoon (22:10). Also joining Nick was a debut for Ben Rhodes pushing the pace at the front as he ran 16:18. Rounding out the track events and Ethan Ellery ran the 800 m in 2:17.1. Off the track and in the field events Brooklyn Crooks took 2nd in the High-Jump and Javelin (1.65 m and 34.31m) whilst Charlotte Ayton took first place in the Long Jump with a distance of 4.48 m before throwing 12.18 m in the Javelin

Still with T&F Saturday and representing Notts County in the Mason Trophy at Stoke, Freddie Marks had an excellent day out as he bagged a pair of PB’s in the High-Jump (1.74m) and 110m Hurdles (16.3s)

On to Sunday and at the independent schools Nationals at the Alexander Stadium, Isaac Beresford was representing both Bassetlaw Schools and Nottinghamshire and what a fine job he did, achieving gold in both the 80m Spring and Long Jump

Very much off the track (except chasing some train tracks!) and on Sunday Tom Shaw and Matt Daly ventured over the Pennines to take part in the Bury to Rawtenstall Race the Train. An up-hill point-to-point 10 miler on a mix of roads and some particularly challenging trails (given the two harriers elected for road shoes on a particularly muddy and wet edition of the race!). Easily beating the train, Tom and Matt easily beat the train and just about everyone else as Tom bagged a 3rd place finish following a battle in the last couple miles to run 1:05:14 followed shortly by Matt in 6th in 1:09:32

Following the weekend of success, Brooklyn Crooks has been selected for the English Schools High Jump Finals in July. In addition, this weekend at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire will be well represented from the Harriers in the Schools Multi-events competition with Brooklyn Crooks and Alicia Wells in the senior Decathlon and Heptathlon whilst Freddie Marks, Charlotte Ayton and Grace Walton will compete in the intermediate Octathlon and Heptathlon. Finally , the Junion girls Pentathlon will see Summer Johnson and Emilia Jonczyk round out 7 Harriers who will represent Nottinghamshire from the total team of 12. A great proportion of representation from a succesful group of athletes.
