This passing Saturday the annual XC Relays took place just down the road at Berry Hill, Mansfield in an ever popular event for the Harriers as we fielded both juniors and seniors mixing people having their first taste of XC to some seasoned vets familiar with the course! Overcast conditions but mostly dry meant it wasn’t a repeat of last years quagmire with a mix of firm grass and only the odd opportunity for a mud bath through the woods. First out the gates, our U13 boys starts us off running 2k each as Isaac Beresford ran first followed by Henry Marks. Next up our U15 girls also took on the 2k course as Miley Townrow led out the team with Summer Johnson and Emilia Jonczyk taking legs 2 and 3.

On to the Seniors and plenty of first timers in our ladies teams as we had two teams in the 3x 3km for a single largest lap. In the first team, a team of first timers as Charlotte Randell got the ladies underway with Sophie Jones and Sam Robinson bring the team home. Next up Lucy Binch started the second team off linking up with two XC vets as Rachel Silcock having her first race back post-Marathon and Cathy Mhembere bring the teams in. Finishing the day off with the largest race of the day, the Men’s 4x 5 km compromised of 2x 2.5km per runner before passing the metaphorical baton with another two teams. Whilst we may not be worrying the podium at the nationals, there was still great fun, racing and camaraderie to be found as we found friendly competition with local friends and rivals Retford AC for a great race within the race! Dom Fielding got the mens team underway with a rapid time to keep the competition alive followed by all out-efforts from Matt Daly and Henry Brady kept the race tight, leaving Tom Shaw to finish the 1st team race, chasing down his Retford opponent! In the 2nd team and giving plenty more opportunities for shouting and cheering from our Worksop spectators, Adam Jonczyk started off the race, followed by the start of a busy weekend for Nick Mould, Chris Lawrence third allowing Chris Jono a final leg to get back and finish a great Saturday afternoon out for the club.

On to Sunday and just cleaned up from the XC and Nick Mould had his road shoes back on as he headed up to Barton-upon-Humber to take on the Hilly Deepdale Dash 10k. A PB of 41:52 and a club bronze standard made for an excellent weekend of running for nick showing some great current form.

Also this Sunday the second round of Notts Sports Hall took place at Kirkby-in-Ashfield as XC juniors made it busy weekend after washing off their spikes as they took part in a series of run, jumps and throws with a great turnout for the indoor competition. Full results to be published but as always it’s an excellent team day out for U11 up to U15’s!
