A weekend of plenty of miles for our Harriers both on the Fell’s and the Road as we start on Saturday at the Grindleford Gallop for a sole Harrier as James Morgan on the 21+ mile course of ups and downs as the race covers 3000+ ft of ascent. Starting from Grindleford the course heads out through Eyam, Great Longstone, over towards  Bakewell before looping back North towards Froggatt and back to Grindleford. Plenty of mud thanks to the recent rain but a good clear sunny day made for fantastic views from the tops as a reward for some good climbing as james completed the course in 4:26:13

On Sunday we were on the road as several Harriers honed in on their Marathon prep with the Ashby 20. A perfect prep on the lead up to spring marathons, Ashby gives a great piece of prep with its two undulating laps head South from Ashby-de-la-Zouch with three of the four Harriers heading to London to find that extra 6.2 miles in five weeks. First back was Dave Bulmer in 3:02:49 who was followed by a trio of ladies all looking in great shape for their spring Marathons as Jo Campbell was back just 7 days after a big HM-PB in3:15:26, followed by Sally Bulmer (3:17:39) and Sarah Charry (4:15:12)

That wasn’t it as we step one then another distance at the North Lincolnshire Half Marathon and 10k with the its great quality field and a fast flat course, it’s a great place to go fast even if the conditions aren’t quite optimal! Paul Marriott was the sole harrier in the HM, running (1:22:35) whilst in the 10k we had some cracking runs as Jack Hutchinson ran a big PB (38:22), Roy Turner also bagging a PB  and narrowly missing out on the age group prize by 13 seconds in some closely contested vet racing (55:08) with Carolyn Luckham joining the two 10k Harriers in 1:09:45.

Finally, whilst we don’t normally do parkrun with so many of them being run all over the country by Harriers each week, this weekend deserves a special mention to a parkrunner that will be very familiar to anyone who has ever visited our local Clumber Park parkrun. 11 years of park ‘running’ but very much mostly from the sidelines making these events happen, Sally Staveley gives up many of her chances to run on a Saturday morning with nearly 350 volunteer credits. However, a recent holiday with fellow parkrunner/volunteer and Husband Jim gave Sally the opportunity to indulge in a spot of parkrun tourism/running and finally reach the ’50 parkrun events’ milestone, (over two years since she would have collected her 250 volunteer credits) as completed Claisebrook Cove parkrun down under! A huge well done and thank you to Sally as you’ll no doubt see her again soon in the hi-viz back at Clumber!
