At the Nottinghamshire Schools Combined Events Championships, held at Moorways Stadium on Thursday, 23rd May, The Worksop Harriers combined events training squad were well represented, albeit in their respective school colours, as this was a schools competition.
The senior and Inter Girls competed in 6 events – Sprint Hurdles, High Jump, Long Jump, Shot, Javelin and 800m.
The senior and Inter Boys competed in 6 events – Sprint hurdles, High Jump, Long Jump, Javelin, Discus and 1500m
The Junior Girls competed in 5 events – Sprint Hurdles, High Jump, Long Jump, Shot and 800m
The outcome for our athletes was:
Senior Girls – Notts. Schools Champion and Gold Medal – Alicia Wells (Outwood Valley)
Senior Boys – Notts. Schools Champion and Gold Medal – Brooklyn Crooks (Outwood Valley)
Inter Girls – Runner up and Silver Medal – Grace Walton – Worksop College
Inter Boys – Notts. Schools Champion and Gold Medal – Freddie Marks (Outwood Portland)
Junior Girls – Runner up and Silver Medal – Summer Johnson (Outwood Valley)
Alicia, Brooklyn and Freddie gain automatic selection into the Nottinghamshire Teams, which will contest the Midlands Schools Combined Events Championships in June, at Berry Hill, Mansfield.
It is likely that Grace and Summer will join them in their respective age group teams of 4, along with Charlotte Ayton (unable to compete in this event due to GCSE exams) in the Inter Girls Team. It is very encouraging that all of our combined event athletes have worked hard together, on a regular basis, to achieve this standard of performance and group success.
