It was another brilliant weekend of action across our senior and junior squads this week, starting on Saturday with a number of junior Harriers competing for their schools in the Notts AAA Schools XC league. Held at Worksop College for this round, there were also opportunities for older athletes to qualify to represent Notts at the English Schools competition in Liverpool in March, as well as to get some good race experience for club and school in a tough field.

In Y5/6 girls, Lauren Townrow ran in a big field coming 33rd for a great race. Holly Bulmer and Heidi Marks ran for Y8/9 and despite being one of the younger athletes, Holly qualified as first reserve to represent Notts. Miley Townrow ran an excellent race to qualify to represent Notts, coming 6th in Y10/11 girls.

For the boys, more excellent running with Freddie Parente, Hugo McCarthy and George North running for Y5/6 boys, and George won his event overall with a great run. For Y8/9 boys, Henry Marks, Isaac Beresford and Oscar Wallace did great runs, with Oscar 4th overall and qualifying for Notts.

Another great day for our younger athletes, and it was great to see a number of our senior squad marshalling the events, which gave them chance to see their junior counterparts getting stuck in and be able to cheer them on!

Sunday started with three Harriers travelling to Dewsbury for the 10k, and what a fantastic morning they had! Husband and wife team David and Sally Bulmer both walked away with bronze standards, and more impressively then drive back to Clowne and ran the XC event! Brian Cherry grabbed a silver standard, also drove back but decided his skills as a photographer and cheerleader were more useful than his running skills by this point.

The Senior squad local XC series was at Clowne this week for match 3 of 5. Our ladies yet again came home in 1st place, and whilst our men were pipped to second and are 2nd overall, the combined squad remain in the lead for the series.
We had another huge turnout of athletes, 22 women and 21 men, an in an event where numbers count this was brilliant to see. The first 7 men and 7 women over the line grabbing points this match were Tom Shaw (also taking 1st place), Matt Daly, Nick Moore, Henry Brady, Dom Fielding, James Gregory and Chris Bliss for the men. For the women, Hannah Miller, Darcie Wasnidge, Madi Spencer, Sam Robinson, Kirsty Fairbairn-Wint, Claire Allsop and Nat Cunningham came in 1-7. The team only grabs max points however if we have a full squad of 17 men and women, so to see such a huge turnout yet again was fantastic and ensured those places were secured.

Lastly and certainly not least, on Sunday Isaac Beresford and George North competed at EIS in Sheffield in the Northern Championships. Both had fantastic days out with Isaac competing in Under 15’s and achieving a 60m PB, coming 5th overall in his 1st ever hurdles race at 60m, 5th overall in long jump. George North competed in the long jump coming 5th, then George and Mason Heath competed in high jump, with George coming 3rd overall for a bronze medal and Mason 5th. A great day and some valuable competition experience for our young athletes!
Very well done to everyone who put their trainers on this week and represented their club and school! Finally, we couldn't end the newsletter without the photo of the week. When someone said the XC course was a mudbath, Nick decided to take that seriously............
