Celebrations for a clean sweep of senior XC trophies this week

There were a few sore heads and some very tired legs on Monday morning after lots of celebrating on Sunday as the Worksop Harriers seniors did the triple and won all three local XC league trophies at our home match.

Our ladies had the league sewn up before the final match and won again on the day, making it five out of five wins. The men left it to the last minute (trying to make no stereotypical comments here), and it was a tie going into the last match, but after a brilliant race, won and took the series title. We also took the overall series win, the first time we have ever won all 3, so a very special day.

So many people to mention, but firstly thank you to the organisers, litter pickers, volunteers and marshals who meant the match could go ahead. It takes a small army to put on an event such as XC and you did a sterling job. Big thanks to the juniors who manned the buffet, guarded it pre-opening (and snuck the occasional treat).  Thanks to the other clubs who make the series such fun to race in. A special mention to Tom Shaw, our senior captain. Always the first to thank everyone else, his commitment, encouragement and hard work were a huge factor in ensuring that we got to this point. And finally, to our amazing runners, who turned out in force all series and showed what you can achieve as a club.

A special mention to the women and men who ran all 5 races. Sarah Dickenson, Louise Morris, Gill Shephard, Cath Mhembre, Darcie Wasnidge, Claire Allsop, Madi Spencer, Hannah Miller, Sally Bulmer, Kerry Dickinson and Sam Robinson ran all for the women. For the men, Nick Mould, David Bulmer, Chris Lawrence, Mat Daly, Dom Fielding, Adam Joncyzk, Ryan Brown, Chris Johnson and Tom Shaw turned out every time.

It was a very proud club on Sunday, and a great example of what this amazing squad can achieve together.

There was also junior action at the ISA National XC this weekend, and the fact the athletes were even there at a national level shows how good they are! In year 3-4, GG Walker took 6th and Frankie Biden-Hook had a brilliant race finishing in the mid field for the girls and Freddie North was 19th out of 63 for the boys. George North was 7th overall in year 5-6 boys from 60 runners, and in Year 7 girls Aya St Juste was 14th from a very large field. Some brilliant running from our young athletes!

We also had two senior racing the North Lincolnshire half marathon, using it as prep for spring marathons. Nia Arthur ran a great 2 hours, and Gabrielle Bower smashed her PB taking 3rd in age cat in 1:37:09

And finally, on Saturday Charlotte Randell took on the 15 mile Belvoir Challenge, a muddy, wet trail race in Leicestershire, joined by her friend and regular running partner Clare, for a great day out in the hills.

A great weekend indeed!
