A very busy weekend of Track and Field action from our junior and senior athletes combined we took part in the Nottinghamshire County Championship at the Moorways Stadium in Derby over Saturday and Sunday 11/12th of May. Two very hot days of competition were rewarded with county medals and PB’s aplenty and a huge haul of over 30 medals including 10 golds. Starting with the youngest we had the U11 quad kids with Aya st Juste 5th overall in the girls (75m 12.9s , 600m 2.13.06, long jump 2.58m & howler 10.8m) and in the boys George North 4th overall (75m 12.1s, 600m 2.03.85s, long jump 3.53m & howler 10.20m)

U13’s had a Silver for Heidi Marks in the Javelin (12.44m) and a LJ PB (3.13m) whilst Henry Marks took gold in the Javelin (17.11m). Isaac Beresford also took bronze in the LJ (4.28m) along with three PB’s in the 100m, 200m and 800m.

Up to the U15’s and some great results from some young ladies as Miley Townrow bagged a gold, a silver and PB in the Discus, Shot (6.05m) and the 800 m (2:30) whilst Summer Johnson also took a gold, a bronze and three PBSs in the HJ (1.40m), Hurdles (13.98s) and LJ, 100m and 200 m. Just one event for Emilia Jonczyk but plenty of success with a Gold in Javelin

At the U17 it was a fantastic four medals for Freddie Marks with Gold in the 100 mH (17.01s) and three bronzes in the TJ, HJ and LJ (10.3m, 1.7m and TBC) whilst Charlotte Ayton also took Silver in the 100m H and a 200m PB (27.01s)

At U20 Brooklyn Crooks took 3 Medals) Long Jump(5.91m), Discus(33.88m)(pb) and Shot Put(9.80m)(pb) whilst Alicia Wells took 3 Medals for Derbyshire in the 400m hurdles (70.2s)(pb), High Jump (1.40m) and Shot Put (8.93m)(pb) with Ethan Ellery also joining the team in the 400m – 5th place in 57.75s

Finally making it to the Seniors and James Lonsdale took Silver in the 1500m (4:21.95) whilst Emma O’Connor grabbed three silvers in the Master Ladies Hammer(17.79m)(pb), Discus(14.78m) and Shot Put(4.97m)

Alongside a very weekend of competition there was also plenty of space for some very literal fun as over 20 Harriers took part in the ever popular local Welbeck 10k fun run. A local event run by the local charity ‘Focus on Young People in Bassetlaw’ gives runners the opportunity to take part in the single lap 10k course in whatever guise they fancy whether it be a good fast blast, a jog round with friends or even a walk. The spring heatwave continued but made for some beautiful running conditions on the undulating course that takes in the private estate roads with great views of the local manors and countryside all whilst of course raising money for a very worthy local cause.
