A giant selection box of events!
This week is a mammoth report packed full of action! Firstly though, a **massive thank you** to the coaches, volunteers, parents and runners across the club who gave their time to organise and marshal the mini-league in Worksop, support athletics, pace clubmates to PB’s and standards at parkrun, and to Bryan Cherry for ‘volunteering’ to be the hare at mini-league, pacing our young athletes. The magic only happened because of everyone who helped.
Parkrun GP: Saturday saw over 35 Harriers travel to Doddington Parkrun for the club’s festive grand prix event, an intra- club competition with opportunities to grab points before the year ends. There were incredible runs across the board, including a glut of PB’s and age-related club standards.
It included PB’s from; Ryan Brown (bronze club age standard) , Harry Cole (junior athlete), Clare Allsop (bronze standard), Tamara Hazlehurst, Nat Cunningham and Julie Holloway (all silver), Charlotte Randell (bronze), Deb Lawrence, and fastest 5k in 8 years for Emma Shaw. We saw more standards from Steve Battle (gold), Hannah Miller (silver and 1st lady), Kerry Saville, 2nd claim athletes Kirsty Fairbairn-Wint and Helen Jones, Lucy Binch, Kev Saville and Cath Mhembre (all silver), Gillian Shepherd (silver and 1st in age cat), Adam Turner, Matt Daly, Nick Mould (bronze), and Roy Turner (1st in age cat and bronze). We also had a lot of other great runs across the squad from Sharon James, Matan Duveen and John Shephard, a 2nd in age cat for Carolyn Luckham (women’s 65-69), and Alice Shaw-Phillips with her best run since baby arrived!
Others paced their clubmates instead of racing, showing just how supportive this club is. Most importantly, we had breakfast together afterwards. Well done everyone!
Nottinghamshire Schools XC: It was the final race of 3 on Saturday. Our junior athletes all did themselves proud with George North winning overall in his year group (Y5/6), Miley Townrow 2nd in Y10/11 girls and Holly Bulmer (Y10.11 girls) and Hugo McCarthy (Y5/6) both 6th overall in their year groups, brilliant results in a tough competition, and all showing dedication to attending across the series.
Combined Events Group (U20, U18, U16) On Saturday and Sunday, it was the indoor competition at the Sheffield Institute of Sport. Summer Johnson continued her sequence of personal bests with a 60m hurdles time of 9.76s and a significant long jump pb of 4.83m, breaking her old PB three times in the competition. Charlotte Ayton achieved the 60m hurdles National Championships qualifying standard in 9.42s and just missed the 200m qualifying standard with a time of 26.56s. Charlotte then leapt over 5m on all four long jump attempts, finishing with a best of 5.09m. Ben Lowe competed in the 200m (24s) and 400m (54s), narrowly missing his PB's in each event, more down to tactical errors rather than lack of speed!
Isaac Beresford competed in three events in match 2 of the South Yorkshire Series. He achieved a massive 10 second PB in his 600m, in 1m 42s, then equalled his high jump PB of 1.35m. Isaac finished with another PB, recording a time of 27.8s in his 200m. Another very good weekend for our combined events squad.
Notts Mini league XC: Sunday saw our juniors back in action for match 4 at Worksop College, with Holly, Hugo and George racing again this weekend! Santa made a guest appearance, and the day included the Parent’s Race, possibly the most competitive event on the year’s racing calendar. First harrier parent home was Adam Joncyzk. We are assured that no cheating occurred, and no one was pulled round by their children.
In the main event, our Under 11 girls, Bethany Hands, Lauren Townrow, Libby Mould, Lydia Spencer and Isla Arthur put on a great show! In the under 11 boys, George North (winning yet again!), Max Foster, Hugo McCarthy, Oakley Allsop, Freddie Parente and Stanely Moffatt all contributed to a fab team performance. Our under 13 girls were represented by Aya St Juste and Eliza de Villiers, whilst Harry Robertson was the under 13 boys rep. Holly Bulmer and Heidi Marks ran well in the Under 15 girls, and the efforts by every single one of our young athletes mean that Worksop sit in 3rd overall in the league. Amazing work team!
KMR series: it was the Santa Special at Kimberworth, a 4.5 mile trail race with lung busting climbs and plenty of mud. Henry Brady and Matt Daly took 1st and 2nd place, and Hannah Miller 1st lady (another one this weekend!), Ryan Brown had a strong run, and Sharon James ran her 10th KMR of the year. This means Sharon will finish 2nd in her age group overall, and Henry and Hannah will win the series, with one race still to go.
Litton Christmas Cracker fell race: This popular race took place on Sunday. A change of course meant it was 6.3 miles, 1200ft of climbing and no less tough. Jim Staveley came home in 1:09:51, Sally Staveley with a great run in 1:35:25 and *Star Award* this week goes to Kerry Dickinson, who did it in full fancy dress, then regretted it due to the temperature meaning she was as red as her outfit by the end!
Bolsover 10k: Four seniors ran the very windy event with Kerry Saville first Harrier home, Steve Battle with his second gold standard of the weekend, Lucy Binch taking 15th lady and Sarah Morgan finishing 9 mins ahead of the time she wanted!
Finally, Charlotte Randell was back in action at the Wild Deer 10k trail race, decked out in Xmas cheer, finishing strongly in 55 mins, on day 44 of a 50 day running streak for charity. Well done Charlotte and everyone who represented the Harriers this weekend!!
