This week the Notts AAA Summer League made a belated return with the first match of five at a new venue or Newark Showground. A pancake flat two lap course just shy of 5 miles of the show ground roads made for good racing conditions save quite a bit of standing water after a day of heavy rainfall that finally abated. It was a promising start to the season as over 20 harriers headed down and the Men’s senior team looks to replicate last years medal success as Ben Rhodes led the mens team home in 14th, followed soon by Dom Fielding (19th), Tom Shaw (22nd), Nick Moore (26th) and Adrian Hopkinson (37th) for the scoring men and leaving the Harries Senior Men in a medal position after the 1st match. A total of 14 men raced to also field a masters team currently in 10th

On to the ladies and some smart racing saw Hannah Miller take an excellent 4th place with strong runs by Madi Spencer (27th), Charlotte Callaghan (62nd) and Sophie Jones (79th) make a strong start and currently sitting in 6th for the Ladies A team, whilst 5 additional ladies also raced to form a B-team. Our next match is at the scenic Wollaton Hall in early June where we will look to build on the early successes.

On to the weekend and the County Development Track & Field League took place with a string of PB’s and our senior athletes bagging a club standard.

Alicia Wells grabbed PB’s in the 200 (27.6s) and Long Jump (5.08m) as well as competing at Shot (8.50 m) and 100mH (16.5s).  Brooklyn Crooks threw a PB in Javelin (34.34m), as well as Shot (9.95m) and discus (33.54m). Two PB’s for Freddie Marks in Shot (7.00m) and LJ (5.17m) as well as 17.3s in the 100mH. Ethan Ellery ran the 400m (57.8s) and 200m – (25.7s PB). Rounding up the juniors, Lily Johnson PB’d in the LJ (3.68m) and also threw Javelin (20.35m). Joining the Juniors a sole senior saw Chris Johnson grab two club standards and PBs as he ran the 1500m (5m 10.4s) and 800m (2m 33.8). The Athletes were joined by two officials Caroline McGinley (Field Official) and Gwen Hines (Track Official)

The week finished off with a short trip up North for the Goole Riverbank Challenge for a GP race as 11 harriers took on a flat and mostly grass 10k, heading out along the river Ouse before a loop of the Riverside Gardens and back the way they came. A rainy day made for a few slippy spots but not enough to deter the harriers from bringing a good few trophies back down the A1! Before the Seniors race got under way, Holly Bulmer was the leading lady as she was first girl home in the junior 1 mile fun run, setting up a productive day for the Harriers. Dom Fielding and Tom Shaw bagged the 2nd and 3rd podiums in 34:41 and 35:01 followed shortly by Matt Daly in 6th in 37:15. Paul Parry finished in 18th but showing plenty of young guns how its done in 40:12 and taking the 1st V50 prize. Rounding out the men were Dave Bulmer (50:06), Roy Tuner (57:36) and John Harrison (1:00:56). On to the ladies and productive week of racing for Nat Cunningham following an excellent SL run as she ran 51:55, followed by another lady making it two races in 4 days as Sally Bulmer ran a pleasing-to-the-eye 55:55. Carolyn Luckham rounded out the ladies in 1:13:27

A bank holiday monday gave us a little extra time to run which meant a lovely sunny morning social saw us take on various routes at different paces and distances from Welbeck before a spot of coffee and breakfast for the ideal start to a bank holiday!
