This passing weekend saw junior Harrier Miley Townrow be awarded the Jack Walters Award. The award recognises dedication of athletes competing in the Notts mini league, T&F, XC and sportshall events across the year across 14 events and awarded to athletes that demonstrate continuous improvement, a dedication to the club competition and outstanding sportsmanship and following productive year of competition, improvements and dedication we are delighted to have another young harrier collect this award. Demonstrating this dedication to competition and improvements, Miley even ran at Charnwood on the Sunday to PB in the 3,000 m in 11:40.69. A productive day out for the junior harriers in the Notts mini league as we finished 5th overall with the U15 girls bagging 2nd overall in the competition with full results to follow!

From the T&F of Charnwood we head over to Manchester next as the spring Marathon season got underway on one of the fastest and most popular courses in the UK which sees the runners loop around Manchester City Centre before heading SW in to the surrounding borough of Greater Manchester. A bright sunny day made for pleasant looking conditions but wind and some bright sun on the long straights didn’t make for an easy day for our athletes but that didn’t make for some excellent runs a huge PB. First harrier home was Jack in 3:10:33 followed by the biggest PB of the day as Dom Ayton knocked a huge 40 minutes off his previous best following a dedicated winter of training to finish in 3:27:58. On to the ladies and two first times as Katrina Gillman knocked on the sub-5 door on her first attempt in 5:01:36 whilst Jessica Blakemore also got her first marathon under her belt in 5:28:41.

Off the roads and on to the fells as two Harries ran very much up the Wirksworth Incline Fell Race. Just over 4 mile and approx. 1000 ft up and the back down for very much negative split kind of race. Chris Lawrence ran 33:27 whilst newly appointed Female team captain Natalie Cunningham ran 38:39

We finish this weeks run report very much closer to home as the Gerald Story Fun run took place on the trails starting from and surround Worksop College. 5.5 miles and out of the college grounds before taking the trails towards Clumber X-roads and along Limetree Avenue, the fun provided a scenic run and nice little last blast for some budding London Marathons as Aidy Hopkinson and Paul Parry were 2nd and 3rd home which also means Aidy will collect the Gerald Story Memorial Trophy for first Harrier home at the next awards night. Julie Holloway was our first lady back followed by Tanja Maric and two more London Marathon stars to be of Cathy Mhembere and Jo Campbell. Newly appoint club-president elect Roy Turner was followed by a duo of Lucy Binch and Charlotte Randell with Alice Shaw-Philips and Tracy Reeves dipping in under the hour. The Harriers on the run were completed by Carolyn Luckham, Faryal Bradley, Michelle Atherton, Emma Butcher and Donna Farmer whilst Sarah Morgan was last in as she volunteered as Tail walker on the day.

If you've noticed a common theme here of people in new roles this is because we've have now held our latest AGM and last but not least for the new things to Worksop is the official section added of the Worksop Harriers Walking and Hiking Group. Recently formed by one of our finest runners over recent years, Richard Hind has led the formation of a group to support those who have maybe hung up their running shoes, taking a temporary break or just want to do a bit of cross-training at a slower speed as they take in some fine longer distance walks. This past weekend the group enjoyed a fine 11 miles of cool sun as they looped from Grindleford, along the Derwent, up Eyam and then back via Froggatt
