There was certainly a festive feeling to the racing this weekend as Saturday saw 20 Harriers have a trip just over the border to Lincolnshire for a bit of Christmas social and the final GP race of the year, incorporating parkrun for the first time as we headed to Doddington Hall on a perfect Winters Morning and it didn’t disappoint. With nearly half the harriers achieving a PB, plenty of SB and a good view late club standards achieved it was certainly a worthwhile trip. Special mentions go to Henry Brady with a massive parkrun PB, Hannah Miller as first lady and another PB, a great little duel/bit of team work between Chris Lawrence and Kev Saville for PB’s and smashing a club gold standard time. Julie Holloway continued a fine run of form for a PB whilst Nia Arthur, Rachel Silcock and Cathy Mhembere all came through close as they knocked in some of their fastest times for the year. Matan Duveen achieved a SB and course PB and last but not least special mention goes to Sarah-Jane Baines who continues with excellent work paying off for a huge PB of over 2 minutes.
On to Sunday and the festivities continued as the penultimate mini league XC race took place at Worksop College and hosted by the Worksop Harriers, it was a first class event once again hosted by the Harrop’s and their team with a special guest appearance from a certain Red & While Fella! Starting off with the U11’s with a 1.5 km race, the event includes a mid-distance for the U13 with the day finishing off with a 3 km and 4 km race for the U15 boys and girls, and being Christmas, even includes a chance for the grown-ups to get involved with the all important parents race!
In the U11 1.5 km, two excellent runs from Lauren Townrow and Libby Mould, whilst in the boys George North just missed the podium in 4th, with brother Freddie and Oakley Allspp also having great runs
Up a distance and 2km for the U13's and Holly Bulmer and Heidi Marks made short work of the single large lap. The U13 boys had two small laps for 3km for Isaac Betesford and Henry Marks.
In the final race it was two laps each with 3km for the U15's girls and 4 km for the boys. In the girls, Miley Townrow held of a chasing pack for 5th, joined by Cherry Yan Mak and Emilia Jonczyk whilst the longest race of the day had a sole Harrier of Harry Cole taking on two large laps for 4 km.
If you thought you might get one race without a Christmas twist this weekend you’d be wrong as our final event of the day. Paul Parry took part in the Great Sprout Scuttle. A 10k Trail race over at Normanby Hall, Paul made short work of the course to finish 3rdand 1st in AG to round out a great year of running!
