Friday 14th saw our juniors host their annual awards evening at the North Notts Arena, celebrating a year of competing, improving and individual and team successes. Awards for age group GP’s and as well as overall individual winners there was plenty to celebrate on the night!
The Nathan Garrett Individual Achievement Award went to Summer Johnson
The Paxeman Award for Highest Grade Mini-League went to George North
GP Winners:
U9 Girl Libby Mould
U9 Boy Freddie North
U11 Girl Lauren Townrow
U11 Boy George North
U13 Girl Joint Winners Heidi Marks & Holly Bulmer
U13 Boy Henry Marks
U15 Girl Miley Townrow
U15 Boy Harry Cole
Party clothes swapped for racing kit and many of our Juniors were then back in Action at the final mini League of the season at Rushcliffe Country Park racing between 1,500 m and 4,000 m across the age groups. In the U11 girls Lauren Townrow finished 8th whilst in the boys it was a close fought battle for the top 3 with George North holding on for 2nd, joined by Oakley Allsop, Hugo McCarty and Freddie North as the U11 boys team also finished 3rd overall in the series. Up and Age Group with Holly Bulmer and Heidi Marks bagging 7th and 17th over 2000 m whilst Henry Marks was the sole U13 Harrier boy over 3000 m, finishing 13th. Finally, top of the age groups and Miley Townrow was in another close battle for the podium in 4th whilst Harry Cole finished 19th in the U15 boys.
That wasn’t it for XC action however as the seniors were also busy in the penultimate local XC Series over at Killamarsh. The flat and ‘fast’ one of the series required plenty of effort for the speed as the course was revised yet again but no less muddy for two filthy laps of Meadowgate Lakes. This time the 5.5 mile course heading out for a loop of Meadowgate Lakes before straight back to the start, once again through the muddy river banks to jump on for a second loop of the lakes, making hard work for the runners as they would cover some of slimiest and most shoe-sucking sections three times in total! Tom Shaw made it 3 for 3 leading the Harriers and the field home again in 1st, joined by Luke Davis (5th), Matt Daly holding off the chasing pack in 6th. Nick Moore returned to the squad to finish 10th, followed closely by Henry Brady (12th), an excellent run from Paul Parry in 17th and Paul Marriott rounding out the scoring 7 in 21st. A huge turnout for the men had wearing the Green and Black and once again making it a very close battle with Clowne to narrowly finish 2nd, meaning it all comes down to the final match on Manton Pit in March!
On our ladies side and it was another three wins from three here too as Hannah Miller made light work of the course again to finish 1st lady whilst two super strong runs by Sam Robinson and Julie Holloway again jump up the rankings in 14th and 17th. Camilla Mercer finished a very respectable 29th despite making the race the end of a long marathon training run with Cathy Mhembere, Cassie Worton and Gillian Shephard rounding out the ladies scoring 7 in 30th, 38th and 47th. Contributing to the ladies final score we also had Sharon James, Carolyn Luckham, Kerry Dickinson, Sarah Dickinson and Alice-Shaw Phillips as the ladies finished 4th on the day.
Next week the XC doesn’t get much bigger as we take a break from the local XC series and head down South as the Harriers will be heading to the home of Cross Country, Parliament Hill for National XC Competition.
